Brandenburger Theater

Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany

The Brandenburg Theatre, founded in 1946 as the Brandenburg Symphonics, is today a drama theatre and concert orchestra for the Brandenburg region. The house with around 660 seats, located in a building erected in the 1950s, maintains a mixed programme of drama, concerts, and guest performances. The Brandenburg Symphonics form the house orchestra. Brandenburg an der Havel itself gives its name to the entire federal state and is one of the oldest cities in the region, with over 1,000 years of history as an Askanian margravial residence. The historic old town with its brick Gothic churches shapes the cultural identity that the theatre takes up in its productions. Brandenburg an der Havel gives the entire federal state its name and was a margravial residence as early as the 10th century.

The resident Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra is older than the present theatre building — the orchestra was founded in 1810, the building only erected in the 1950s.
