The Teatro Rossini is the opera house of Pesaro, the birthplace of Gioachino Rossini. Opened in 1818 – with the composer himself conducting – it was named after Rossini in 1855. Today the house is a central venue of the world-famous Rossini Opera Festival (ROF), which since 1980 has drawn Rossini connoisseurs and bel canto stars from around the world to Pesaro each summer and is celebrated for its philologically grounded rediscoveries. Set in the centre of the Adriatic coastal city, the Teatro Rossini combines an intimate historic atmosphere with the stewardship of a heritage of world rank.
