The Teatro Goldoni is the opera house of Livorno, named after the great Venetian comic playwright Carlo Goldoni. Opened in 1847, it has a magnificent, spacious auditorium that shines anew after a long restoration. Livorno is the birthplace of the composer Pietro Mascagni, whose memory is kept alive in the city's musical life. As a teatro di tradizione, the Goldoni cultivates the grand Italian repertoire and belongs to the Tuscan theatre network with Pisa and Lucca. Set in the centre of the lively port city on the Tyrrhenian coast, it is an important point of reference in the region's cultural life.
