The Teatro Fraschini is the opera house of Pavia and one of the most important historic theatres in Lombardy. Opened in 1773 as the Teatro dei Quattro Cavalieri, it was later named after the Pavia-born tenor Gaetano Fraschini, one of the most celebrated singers of his time and a close collaborator of Verdi. The elegant tiered auditorium ranks among the most beautiful in the region. As a teatro di tradizione and part of OperaLombardia, the house offers an opera season from the grand repertoire as well as concerts and drama. Set in the heart of the venerable university town, the Fraschini is a vibrant centre of Pavia's cultural life.
