The Teatro delle Muse is the largest theatre in the Marche and the opera house of Ancona, the port city on the Adriatic. Opened in 1827 in neoclassical style to designs by Pietro Ghinelli, it was severely damaged in the Second World War and fully reopened only in 2002 – today it combines a historic façade with a modernised interior. As the Fondazione Teatro delle Muse, the house offers a varied season of opera, concerts, dance and drama. Set in the centre of Ancona overlooking the harbour, it is the city's cultural landmark and a central place of musical life on the central Adriatic coast.
