The Teatro Comunale is the historic opera house of Sassari, the second-largest city in Sardinia. Built in the early 20th century, the house has long been the focal point of musical life in the north of the island. Here the Ente Concerti "Marialisa de Carolis" stages its renowned opera season, which each year brings the grand Italian repertoire to Sassari and also attracts international guests. Beyond opera, the Comunale offers concerts and further events. As the cultural centre of northern Sardinia, it complements the Teatro Lirico of Cagliari and makes the island a surprisingly rich opera land.
