Biography
Johann Strauss II was born in 1825 in Vienna and received the honorary title Waltz King, which testifies to his outstanding position in the dance music of the nineteenth century. With his operetta Die Fledermaus of 1874, he created the masterpiece of Viennese operetta, which has since been part of every New Year's Eve at the Vienna State Opera. The Gypsy Baron and A Night in Venice complete his operetta work, which embodies the lightness and charm of old Vienna. His waltzes The Blue Danube and Tales from the Vienna Woods became unofficial hymns of Austria. Strauss prevailed against the will of his famous father as a musician and ultimately surpassed him in fame. His music combines melodic richness with rhythmic elegance and orchestral splendour. He died in 1899 in Vienna.
