About the work

The musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey was premiered in 1971 in Chicago and reached Broadway in 1972, where it ran for over eight years. The action is set at an American high school of the 1950s in the style of a nostalgic rock'n'roll revue.

Plot

The daredevil Danny Zuko and the well-behaved Sandy Olsson meet during the summer holidays and fall in love. On the first day of school at Rydell High they unexpectedly meet again, but Danny keeps up his tough image before his cool friends, the T-Birds. Sandy finds her place among the Pink Ladies around the cheeky Rizzo. After various misunderstandings, the school dance and a car race, Danny and Sandy finally come together as an equal couple.
