Théâtre Mogador

Paris, France

The Théâtre Mogador in the 9th arrondissement is the principal Parisian stage for major international musicals. Built in 1913 by the British impresario Sir Alfred Butt for his revue company, the house was designed in Art Deco style with 1,600 seats as one of the largest Parisian theatres. After decades of shifting use — revues, operettas, concerts — Stage Entertainment took over the house in 2005 and made it the French flagship for licensed Broadway and West End productions. Cats, Le Roi Lion (The Lion King), Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, and Le Fantôme de l'Opéra have had their French long-run performances here. The special construction of the stage, with exceptional depth for Parisian conditions, enables the complex sets that modern musicals demand. Outside the musical season the house is also used for concerts, comedy shows, and corporate events.

Did you know?

The building was financed in 1913 by the British impresario Sir Alfred Butt, who intended to give Paris its first dedicated musical stage — over 100 years later the house still serves exactly that purpose.
