The Théâtre du Châtelet, opened in 1862 by Baron Haussmann as part of the Parisian urban renewal, is, with around 2,000 seats, one of the largest theatres in the French capital. The house at Place du Châtelet on the Rive Droite has an exceptionally diverse history: it hosted world premieres — Diaghilev's Ballets Russes with Stravinsky's Petrushka in 1911 — and major concerts with Toscanini, Rachmaninoff, Strauss, and Mahler. Today the Châtelet presents an eclectic programme of opera, musical, concert, and dance. A comprehensive 2017-2019 restoration brought the hall back in faithful splendour.
The Théâtre du Châtelet hosted numerous Parisian premieres, including Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in 1909. The hall was completely restored in 2019 and shines in new splendour.
