The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, built in 1910 as the Globe Theatre and renamed in 1958 in honour of the legendary acting couple Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, is among the architecturally most elegant medium-sized Broadway houses, with 1,519 seats. The bright, classicist façade and the carefully restored auditorium with golden decorations reflect the splendour of the early Broadway era. Over the decades the Lunt-Fontanne has housed remarkable productions — from "The Sound of Music" in the original cast in 1959 to "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Addams Family". Currently the house shows Disney's "Tarzan" and further large-scale productions. The house is run by the Nederlander Organization and maintains a tradition of artistic care.
The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York was named in 1958 in honour of the famous acting couple Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne — Disney has successfully presented musical adaptations here since 1999.
