Booth Theatre

New York, USA

The Booth Theatre on West 45th Street is one of the most beautiful and intimate playhouses on Broadway. It opened in 1913 to designs by the architect Henry B. Herts and was named in honour of the famous Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth. With only around 800 seats, the Booth is regarded as an ideal house for plays and chamber-scale musicals, creating a special closeness between stage and audience. Over the decades, many important works have had their premieres or long runs here, from award-winning dramas to intimate musicals such as Sunday in the Park with George. With its elegant Italian-inspired architecture and long history, the Booth Theatre ranks among the most storied addresses of the American theatre.
