Biography
Ruggero Leoncavallo was born in 1857 in Naples and is best known for his opera Pagliacci (1892), which together with Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana founded the verismo repertoire. The story of the jealous comedian Canio was based on a real criminal case. He died in 1919 in Montecatini.
