Biography
Duncan Sheik (born 1969) is an American singer-songwriter and composer, first known for his pop hit Barely Breathing. For musical theatre he wrote the music for Spring Awakening (2006), a bold rock setting of Frank Wedekind's drama Spring Awakening, which won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Sheik's alternative-rock sound broke radically with the conventions of the genre and appealed to a young audience. He is regarded as one of the innovators of the rock musical in the twenty-first century.
