About the work

(Über)Lebensfragen (Questions of (Sur)vival) is a contemporary play that explores the existential questions of a young generation around the desire to have children, self-determination and life planning. At its centre is the character Juni, who finds herself at a biographical turning point between uncertainty and new possibilities. With a mix of serious reflection and a pinch of absurdity, the play poses the pressing question of whether and how one wants to bring children into the world today.

Plot

Juni finds herself at the end of a long relationship. Her Master's degree is finished, and the future that once seemed so certain is suddenly open, uncertain and full of possibilities. With that, the question of whether she wants children returns. While Juni tries to work out what she actually wants, month after month her body – more precisely, her uterus – makes itself heard, reminding her of the biological "task" of reproduction. Between mind and body, wanting and having to, a struggle unfolds over one of life's most fundamental decisions.

Cultural significance

(Über)Lebensfragen takes up themes that preoccupy many people of today's generation: reproductive self-determination, the compatibility of different life plans, and the moral question of whether one may bring a child into an uncertain world. With heated debates and a pinch of absurdity – almost like real life – the play invites its audience to question their own attitudes. It stands for a contemporary theatre that directly connects personal and social questions.
