About the work
"Made in America" is a triple-bill ballet evening by Tulsa Ballet (Oklahoma, USA). The programme gathers three works of distinctly American character and, in May 2026, toured to the United Kingdom for the first time – at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Theatre in London, marking the company's UK debut. The evening showcases the stylistic range of contemporary American ballet, from neoclassical elegance and lyrical abstraction to music-theatre-inflected theatricality.
Plot
The programme consists of three choreographies. "Classical Symphony" by Yuri Possokhov is a neoclassical work set to Prokofiev's "Classical Symphony" (Symphony No. 1). "Divenere" by Nicolo Fonte combines flowing contemporary movement with accessible music in a lyrical, abstract piece. "Remember Our Song" is by Andy Blankenbuehler, the Tony-winning choreographer of the musical "Hamilton", bringing a narrative, music-theatre-inspired movement language to the ballet stage. The three pieces stand independently side by side, each illuminating a different facet of American dance aesthetics.
Cultural significance
Tulsa Ballet is considered one of the most respected regional ballet companies in the United States. With "Made in America" it presents itself to an international audience as an ambassador of American dance-making. The line-up – a Russian-trained, San Francisco-based choreographer (Possokhov), an internationally active contemporary choreographer (Fonte) and a Broadway figure (Blankenbuehler) – reflects the cultural diversity from which American dance draws.
