About the work
Träume in Europa (Dreams in Europe) is a stage text by German author Wolfram Lotz based on his prose collection of the same name (S. Fischer Verlag, 2026). Its source material consists of edited dream reports that Lotz gathered over several years from internet forums across Europe. The stage version premiered on 9 May 2026 at Staatsschauspiel Dresden, directed by Sebastian Hartmann.
Plot
The text assembles roughly a hundred reworked dream reports from European internet forums into a continuous flow of text without a sustained plot or fixed characters. Recurring motifs are family, parents and siblings, occasionally interrupted by contemporary figures; loud violence or nightmares are deliberately excluded from the collection. On stage, ten performers gather around a large table, accompanied by live piano and electronic sound.
Cultural significance
The project continues Lotz's documentary approach from "Heilige Schrift I" (2022) and has been placed by critics in the tradition of Romantic collections of folk literature as well as archival contemporary writing.
