About the work
Noetic is a contemporary ballet by the Belgian-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. The work explores the connection between mind and body and the limits of human perception through a distinctive movement language.
Plot
In a series of ensemble scenes and solos, Noetic examines the relationship between intuitive knowledge and bodily experience. The dancers move between geometric formations and organic flow, probing the boundaries between the individual and the group. Sculptural elements of malleable material become extensions of the bodies and create constantly shifting landscapes. The piece culminates in a meditative closing sequence that draws the audience into a state of shared contemplation.
Cultural significance
Noetic exemplifies Cherkaoui's ability to fuse Western and Eastern dance traditions and to make contemporary dance accessible to a broad audience. The work reflects current discourses on bodily knowledge and holistic perception in contemporary dance.
