About the work
McKinsey kommt (McKinsey Is Coming) is a five-act play with five epilogues by Rolf Hochhuth, published in 2003 and premiered on 13 February 2004 at the Brandenburger Theater, directed by Oliver Munk.
Plot
In their factory's locker room, two laid-off workers read in the newspaper that their company has just bought a plant in the United States, aiming to produce at low wages near the Mexican border and cut further German jobs. In loosely connected scenes played by the same actors in shifting roles, the play examines the consequences of such takeover and outsourcing practices.
Cultural significance
With its title, Hochhuth directly targets the consultancy McKinsey and its clients, responding to high unemployment in early-2000s Germany; the play fell far short of his early successes with critics and audiences alike.
