About the work
“kurz&nackig” is a comedy by Jan Neumann, developed by him during rehearsals together with an ensemble drawn from members of Staatstheater Mainz and Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. The joint production of both houses premiered in Mainz on 7 October 2023, followed a week later by the premiere in Weimar. The play is published by Gustav Kiepenheuer Bühnenvertriebs-GmbH and has since been staged at other theatres as well.
Plot
Three couples from three generations of one family experience both moments of great happiness and moments of complete overwhelm around the birth of a child. Through pointed dialogue and comic situations, the comedy shows how differently parents, grandparents and great-grandparents deal with the same life event, and what each of them learns from it.
Cultural significance
As an ensemble-devised piece later distributed by a stage rights agency, the comedy has gone on to further productions beyond its premiere houses, including at Theater Bautzen.
