Biography
Jan Neumann was born in 1975 in Munich and completed his acting training at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding. From 1998 to 2001 he was an ensemble member at the Bavarian State Theatre Munich, and from 2001 to 2006 at Schauspiel Frankfurt, where his first own play, “Goldfischen”, premiered in the 2004/05 season. Since 2006 he has worked as a freelance author and director, among others at Schauspiel Stuttgart, Schauspiel Köln, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, usually developing his plays together with the respective ensemble during rehearsals, including the comedies “kurz&nackig” (premiered 2023 in Mainz and Weimar) and “Zur fröhlichen Zwietracht!” (premiered 2026 in Potsdam). Since the 2013/14 season he has also been a resident director at the German National Theatre Weimar; in 2011 he received the “Komische Literatur” promotion prize from the Brückner-Kühner Foundation.
