About the work

“Geheimnisse” is the German title of “Secret.s”, a comedy by the French writer Sébastien Blanc. It premiered in 2024 at the Théâtre de la Madeleine in Paris, directed by Jean-Luc Moreau, with Patrick Chesnais and Laurent Gamelon. The chamber comedy needs only two performers, because one of them plays both twin brothers. The German translation is by Georg Holzer.

Plot

Every year Fabien and his closest friends, the twins Éric and Jérôme, get together to watch the Roland Garros final on television. This time Éric turns up earlier than agreed because he wants to confide something to Fabien that would turn upside down the life of Jérôme and his marriage to Juliette, Fabien's sister. Then Jérôme arrives as well, with a confession of his own. Fabien has promised both of them discretion, still wants to bring the brothers back together, and gets caught up in one evasion after another.

Cultural significance

After Paris the comedy was quickly taken up elsewhere: the first German-language production opened in Heilbronn in April 2025, and in 2026 the play was staged at the Théâtre Royal des Galeries in Brussels. That same year the Académie française honoured Sébastien Blanc and his frequent co-author Nicolas Poiret for their dramatic work as a whole.
