About the work
“Fack ju Göhte – Das Musical” is a stage adaptation by Simon Triebel, Nicolas Rebscher and Kevin Schroeder of the 2013 film of the same name by Bora Dağtekin, created on behalf of Constantin Film. Triebel and Rebscher wrote the music and book, Schroeder the book and lyrics; the world premiere took place on 21 January 2018 at Theater Werk 7 in Munich's Werksviertel district, directed by Christoph Drewitz.
Plot
Ex-convict Zeki poses as a school caretaker to retrieve money he buried on the grounds years earlier, but is mistakenly hired as a substitute teacher for the unruly class 10b. Amid classroom chaos and his growing closeness to colleague Lisi Schnabelstedt, his plan increasingly clashes with a rising sense of responsibility for his students.
Cultural significance
The musical won the German Musical Theatre Award for Best Musical in 2018 and Best Stage World at the BroadwayWorld Germany Awards; its original Munich production drew around 58,000 visitors. Following two nationwide tours in 2023, it has also been staged at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden since March 2025.
