About the work
Die Wilden (Russian original Дикари) is a stage comedy by the Soviet writer Sergei Vladimirovich Mikhalkov. He wrote it in 1958, and it premiered that September at the Yermolova Theatre in Moscow.
Plot
Three young men set out to camp like savages, away from civilisation and women, at a remote spot on the Black Sea coast. When two young women claim the same site, rivalry gives way to teasing and jealousy, and eventually to a shared holiday friendship between the two groups.
Cultural significance
The comedy was popular across the Soviet Union and inspired the 1961 film Three Plus Two, a cult hit that reportedly led many young people to take up similar camping holidays. In German adaptation, the play was also staged under the title Wie die Wilden, for instance in 1960 at the Erfurt municipal theatres.
