About the work
Daliso e Delmita is an azione pastorale in two acts by Antonio Salieri to a libretto by Giovanni De Gamerra. It premiered on 29 July 1776 at the Burgtheater in Vienna.
Plot
Set in the countryside near Athens, the opera unfolds a pastoral tale of love between the shepherd couple Daliso and Delmita.
Cultural significance
Though contemporary accounts describe the work as driven by innovative ambitions, it failed to win over the Viennese public. Its overture survives and remains available on recordings of Salieri's orchestral music.
