About the work

Aspects of Love is a sung-through musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on David Garnett's 1955 novella, with lyrics by Don Black and Charles Hart. It premiered on 17 April 1989 at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London, directed by Trevor Nunn.

Plot

Over seventeen years, the show follows the shifting romantic entanglements of the young Alex Dillingham, the actress Rose Vibert, his uncle George, George's lover, the sculptor Giulietta Trapani, and Alex's cousin Jenny. Affection, jealousy and infidelity keep reshuffling the relationships until Rose finally marries George.

Cultural significance

The show produced the worldwide hit "Love Changes Everything", which took Michael Ball into the British top ten in 1989. The original London production ran for more than 1,300 performances; its frank, sometimes age-asymmetric relationships have made it one of Lloyd Webber's more contentious works.
