The London Palladium on Argyll Street, built in 1910 by Frank Matcham, is among the most legendary variety and musical houses in the world. The majestic façade in Louis XIV style and the opulent auditorium with its around 2,286 seats embody the splendour of Edwardian theatre architecture. The house was home to the "Royal Variety Performance" and a venue for world stars from Judy Garland to Frank Sinatra. In more recent times the Palladium has shown musical engagements and concerts — including productions such as "The Sound of Music", "The King and I" and "Mary Poppins". The famous revolving stage, one of the first of its kind in Great Britain, is in operation to this day. For many, an appearance at the Palladium is regarded as the accolade of the British entertainment business.
The London Palladium, opened in 1910, is one of the most famous variety theatres in the world — the annual Royal Variety Performance traditionally takes place here before the British royal family.
