His Majesty's Theatre on the Haymarket (until 2022 "Her Majesty's Theatre") was built in 1897 in elegant French classical manner and is thus one of the architecturally most outstanding houses of the West End. The magnificent façade with mansard roof, the opulently appointed foyers and the red-and-gold-embroidered auditorium make the house a landmark of London's theatre world. Since October 1986 Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" has been at home here in its original production — making the house one of the few theatres in the world to show the same production continuously for over four decades. With 1,160 seats and a long tradition of opera and operetta premieres before the musical era, His Majesty's Theatre is a living monument of British theatre history.
His Majesty's Theatre, opened in 1897, is one of the most tradition-rich London West End theatres — The Phantom of the Opera has run here without interruption since 1986, one of the longest performance runs of modern musical theatre.
