Biography
Middle High German poet, one of the most significant epic poets of the Middle Ages. His verse novel Parzival (around 1210) served as the basis for Richard Wagner's opera Parsifal. He is considered, alongside Hartmann von Aue and Gottfried von Strassburg, one of the three great epic poets of courtly poetry.
