Biography
Theu Boermans was born in Willemstad, Curaçao, in 1950. He works as a director and actor mainly in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium. His feature film 1000 Rosen (1994) was nominated for the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary, and in 1995 he won a Golden Calf for the television drama De Partizanen. In Vienna his productions include Raoul Schrott's Gilgamesh at the Akademietheater in 2002 and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Burgtheater in 2007. For the Volksoper Wien he wrote the text and libretto of the play with music Lass uns die Welt vergessen, set during rehearsals at the Volksoper in 1938, which he directed at its premiere in December 2023; its music draws on Jara Beneš's operetta Gruß und Kuss aus der Wachau, whose score Keren Kagarlitsky reconstructed for the production.
