Biography
Sibylle Berg (born 1962 in Weimar) is one of the most productive and provocative voices of contemporary German-language literature. Berg left the GDR with an approved emigration request in 1984 and has lived in Zurich since the early 2000s. Her novels—Ein paar Leute suchen das Glück und lachen sich tot (1997), Sex II, Amerika, Der Tag, als meine Frau einen Mann fand (2015), GRM. Brainfuck (2019)—combine scathing social observation with experimental form. Her theatre career took off with her collaboration with director Sebastian Nübling at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin from 2013: Es sagt mir nichts, das sogenannte Draußen (Theater heute Play of the Year 2014), Und dann kam Mirna (2015, Friedrich Luft Prize), Nach uns das All (2017), Wonderland Ave. (2018, invited to Mülheimer Theatertage). Berg also writes essays, columns, and speaks publicly on politics, gender, and digital culture.
