Biography
Ralph Benatzky (1884–1957), born Rudolph Josef Franz Benatzky in Mährisch Budwitz, Moravia, was an Austrian composer, conductor, and cabaret writer. Extraordinarily prolific, he wrote hundreds of songs and chansons and numerous stage works. His greatest success is the revue-operetta The White Horse Inn (Im weißen Rößl, 1930), still performed worldwide, which became an international hit through its blend of operetta, popular song, and revue. Benatzky fled the Nazis to Switzerland and the United States; he died in Zurich.
