Biography
Neville Tranter is an Australian-Dutch puppeteer and director among the internationally most significant representatives of modern figure theatre. With his Stuffed Puppet Theatre founded in 1976 and based in Amsterdam, he has developed his own form of adult puppet theatre — characterised by life-sized foam puppets directly manipulated by him. Tranter adapts classical opera and theatre material such as Macbeth, Cabaret, and Schicklgruber (about Hitler) for puppet theatre and combines political sharpness with macabre humour. His solo performances are shown worldwide at theatre and puppet festivals; he is considered a renewer of the genre and has influenced several generations of puppeteers.
