Biography
Mitch Leigh (1928–2014), born in Brooklyn, was an American composer. Trained under Paul Hindemith at Yale University, he first worked successfully in advertising music before achieving a worldwide success with Man of La Mancha (1965). Its song The Impossible Dream (The Quest) became one of the most widely sung anthems of American musical theatre. Although Leigh never matched that success again, this single work secured him a permanent place in Broadway history.
