Biography

Marco Damghani was born in Hamburg in 1992 and studied directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. His plays deal with politics, with post-migrant society and with the way social structures shape private lives, and he usually directs them himself. At Schauspiel Leipzig he staged “Die Leiden des jungen Azzlack” in 2021, whose solo performer Eidin Jalali won the German theatre award DER FAUST in 2022, and “Anouk & Adofa” in 2022, which was invited to the Autor:innentheatertage at Deutsches Theater Berlin in 2023. After a Heidelberger Stückemarkt fellowship in 2020, he published his first novel, “Die Insel Sertralin”, with Jaron Verlag in 2024. “Die Allerletzten”, his play about a Berlin couple who move to the countryside and find themselves among far-right neighbours, opened at the Maxim Gorki Theater in November 2025 and won the audience award at the radikal jung festival in Munich in 2026. Since the 2026/27 season he has been part of the artistic leadership of the Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg, and his new play “Der Riss”, written for Schauspiel Leipzig, is scheduled to premiere in February 2027.
