Biography

Lukas Bärfuss, born 1971 in Thun, is among the most significant contemporary Swiss authors. His dramas and novels have been translated into over twenty languages. For his literary work, he received the Georg Büchner Prize in 2019, the most significant award in the German-language literary scene. Bärfuss treats socially sensitive topics with analytical clarity — assisted dying, the Rwandan genocide, disability, right-wing populism — and is considered a voice of a critical, European public.
