Biography
Jule Styne (1905–1994), born in London as Julius Kerwin Stein, was a British-American composer and one of Broadway's most prolific melodists. Having emigrated to Chicago as a child, he first wrote Hollywood songs before establishing himself on Broadway with Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949). The classics Gypsy (1959) and Funny Girl (1964) followed, along with Bells Are Ringing. His song Let It Snow! and countless standards made him a defining figure of the Great American Songbook. Styne won the Tony Award and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
