Biography
Joe Murphy is a British playwright who writes his plays as a duo with Joe Robertson. In the summer of 2015 the two founded Good Chance, a theatre in a geodesic dome in the refugee camp at Calais, which later also worked in Paris. That experience gave rise to their play The Jungle, which opened at London's Young Vic in December 2017, directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin as a co-production with the National Theatre, and later transferred to the West End. In 2018 Murphy and Robertson received the Genesis Prize. Their play Kyoto, about the negotiations for the Kyoto Protocol and the lobbyist Don Pearlman, premiered on 18 June 2024 at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and was then shown in London and at Lincoln Center in New York.
