Biography
Henry Krieger (born 1945 in New York) is an American composer of musical theatre. His greatest success came with Dreamgirls (1981), whose Motown- and soul-inspired score became a landmark of the African-American musical. The later 2006 film adaptation carried Krieger's music—including the number And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going—to a worldwide audience. With Side Show (1997) he created another work highly esteemed by critics. Krieger's style combines catchy pop melody with the richness of the Black American musical tradition.
