Biography
Hans-Werner Kroesinger is one of the most important representatives of documentary theatre in the German-speaking region. His productions at HAU Berlin, the Maxim Gorki Theater, and other stages are based on meticulous research of historical and political topics — from colonial history through genocide processing to current geopolitical conflicts. Kroesinger works methodically with original documents, witness accounts, and legal files, which he condenses into concentrated stage montages. His theatre understands itself as critical processing of repressed history and contemporary political analysis. He has been invited multiple times to the Berlin Theatertreffen and is considered an international benchmark for research-based political theatre.
