Encounters with filmmakers led him to film scoring, and for many years he worked mainly for television. His breakthrough came in 1996 with the score for the documentary Microcosmos, which won him a César in 1997; further Césars followed for Himalaya and Les Choristes. His choral songs for Christophe Barratier's Les Choristes (2004) became a major success, the soundtrack album topped the French charts for weeks and the song Vois sur ton chemin was nominated for an Academy Award.
