Biography
Branko Šimić was a significant representative of Expressionism in South Slavic literature. His poems and prose texts are marked by socio-critical sharpness and an unembellished imagery that gives expression to the brutal social realities of his time. As a poet, essayist, and translator, he is among the most important voices of Croatian-Bosnian literature of the early twentieth century and was closely connected to the Expressionist movements in Central Europe. His work is being rediscovered today and adapted by theatres interested in the connection between poetry and stage art.
