Biography
Anaïs Mitchell (born 1981) is an American singer-songwriter and folk musician from Vermont. Her life's work Hadestown began as a self-produced concept album and developed over years into a stage musical that won eight Tony Awards on Broadway in 2019, including Best Musical and Best Score. Mitchell was thereby one of the few women ever solely responsible for the music, lyrics, and book of a Broadway musical. Her style blends folk, jazz, and New Orleans sounds into a distinctive, literary mode of songwriting.
