About the work
“Isidor” is the stage adaptation of Shelly Kupferberg's bestselling book, written by Caroline Bruckner and Philipp Stölzl, who also directs. It tells the life of Dr Isidor Geller, who rises from the poorest corner of eastern Galicia to the highest circles of Vienna: lawyer, Kommerzialrat, adviser to the Austrian state, multimillionaire, opera lover and art collector, who tries to leave his Jewish origins behind and believes himself untouchable. After the Anschluss in 1938 he loses everything. Decades later his great-great-niece, the journalist Shelly, discovers her grandfather's letters and follows his trail. Stefko Hanushevsky plays Isidor, with Itay Tiran as narrator across many roles. It premiered on 28 February 2026 at the Burgtheater's Akademietheater.
