About the work
“I miss you Beaver Creek” is a play by Bastian Reiber, who was an actor in the ensembles of Theater Magdeburg, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Schaubühne Berlin and has also directed since 2017. The premiere, directed by Reiber himself, is announced for 21 November 2026 in Kammer 2 of the Magdeburg Schauspielhaus; it had originally been planned for the 2025/26 season. The theatre calls the evening a winter-sports tragicomedy.
Plot
At its centre is a situation every actor dreads: the leading man fails to turn up, cancelling is not an option for the theatre management, and a colleague who has never seen the production has to step in at short notice. What should be on the programme is a winter-sports tragicomedy about attachment, old love and fresh snow, but the stand-in knows neither what it is about, nor whom her fellow actors are playing, nor what the director had in mind.
Cultural significance
The motif of having to perform a play one does not know already drove Reiber's production “Genesis” at the Schaubühne Berlin (2023), in which an actor ends up in the wrong play on an unfinished stage; Reiber's Magdeburg “Odyssee: Buch von Homer” (2023) likewise relied above all on slapstick.
