About the work

Plot
Told in around 18 loosely connected scenes performed by just four actors in changing roles, the show moves through familiar stages of romantic life, from first dates through marriage and parenthood to old age.
Cultural significance
The production ran for more than twelve years at the Westside Theatre until 2008, closing after more than 5,000 performances as the second-longest-running Off-Broadway show in history; it has been translated into more than a dozen languages and staged in cities including Berlin, Vienna and Augsburg.
