A Bit of Trallalala

Ruth Brauer-Kvam
Opera · 2024

About the work

“Ein bisschen trallalala” is a tribute to the Viennese artist couple Fritzi Massary and Max Pallenberg, celebrated in 1920s Berlin as an operetta diva and a star comedian. Massary, a Jewish Viennese, shaped pre-war operetta like no one else and was the toast of Berlin's Metropol-Theater, while Pallenberg was considered one of the great comedians of his day. Both had to flee the Nazis. Ruth Brauer-Kvam and director Martina Gredler wrote the book and tell the story of these two birds of paradise who soared high and fell hard, with songs from their own repertoire, Jewish humour, feathers and sequins. Drama meets operetta: Ruth Brauer-Kvam plays Fritzi Massary, Robert Palfrader plays Max Pallenberg, with musical direction by Adam Benzwi. It premiered on 27 March 2024 at the Volksoper Wien.
