The Noël Coward Theatre on St Martin's Lane in London's West End was built by Sir Charles Wyndham and opened on 12 March 1903 as the New Theatre, directly behind his Wyndham's Theatre. Architect W. G. R. Sprague gave it a classical façade and a Rococo auditorium seating around 870 on four levels. In 1973 it was renamed the Albery Theatre in honour of its long-serving manager Sir Bronson Albery. Owned since 2005 by Cameron Mackintosh's Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, it was renamed after its 2006 refurbishment for Noël Coward, who made his West End debut as a playwright here in 1920. Today the Grade II listed theatre presents musicals, new plays and transfers from leading British stages.
