Biography
Yade Yasemin Önder was born in Wiesbaden in 1985 and writes both prose and texts for the stage. After studying literature and education at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, she trained in literary writing at the Deutsches Literaturinstitut Leipzig and in scenic writing at the Universität der Künste Berlin. Her first play, “Kartonage”, was invited to the Autorentheatertage at Deutsches Theater Berlin in 2017, where it premiered as one of three winning plays; in September 2017 it received its Austrian premiere at the Kasino of Vienna's Burgtheater. In 2018 she won the main prose prize at the open mike competition, and her debut novel “Wir wissen, wir könnten, und fallen synchron” (2022) received the lit.COLOGNE debut prize and the Nicolas Born debut prize. Her play “Bu sözler bizim – Die Worte gehören uns”, which moves between Turkish and German, won the exil-Dramatiker*innenpreis of the Wiener Wortstätten in 2024 and premiered at Schauspiel Leipzig in April 2026. Her second novel, “Anti Müller”, came out in 2026 and was longlisted for the German Book Prize.
