Biography

Wenzel Storch, born in Braunschweig in 1961, made his name as director and producer of fantastical low-budget feature films: “Der Glanz dieser Tage” (1989), “Sommer der Liebe” (1992) and “Die Reise ins Glück” (2004), which won an audience award at the Fantasia festival in Montreal that same year. His films are populated by bizarre characters and fantasy worlds and often take clear aim at the Church. Since 2007 he has written for the magazine “konkret”, mostly about curious finds from the Catholic milieu; these pieces led to the books “Der Bulldozer Gottes” (2009) and “Das ist die Liebe der Prälaten” (2013), published by Ventil Verlag. He first worked as a playwright and director at Theater Dortmund in 2014: “Komm in meinen Wigwam” poked fun at Catholic literature on decency from the 1950s to the 1970s, above all youth novels by Berthold Lutz, followed there in 2015 by “Das Maschinengewehr Gottes”, centred on the preacher Father Leppich. With “Lass uns miteinander reden”, which he also directs, he returns to the theatre after about ten years; its world premiere at Schauspiel Köln is announced for December 2026.
